New York Grand Jury Indicts President Trump

Associated Press: A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter, the first ever criminal case against a former U.S. president and a jolt to Trump’s bid to retake the White House in 2024. The indictment confirmed Thursday by Joe Tacopina, a lawyer for Trump. It is likely to galvanize critics who say Trump lied and cheated his way to the top and embolden supporters who feel the Republican is being unfairly targeted by a Democratic prosecutor (Associated Press). Greg Price: Donald Trump has been indicted by the Manhattan grand jury. Last year, Alvin Bragg lowered 52% of all felony charges to misdemeanors. But now he chose to elevate a misdemeanor past the statute of limitations to a felony to indict Trump (Twitter). Charlie Kirk: Official Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America: “This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history” (Twitter). Ron DeSantis: The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American (Twitter).

Republicans Introduce Legislation to Protect Schools, Biden Rejects It
Daily Wire: At the heart of the bill, which will be called the The Securing Aid for Every (SAFE) School Act, is a $900 million grant program, according to Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Bill Hagerty (R-TN). A fact sheet for Blackburn and Hagerty’s bill says states will be able use the grant money in a number of ways, including to train and hire veterans and former law enforcement officers to serve as school safety officers, hire off duty law enforcement officers, and provide funding to harden schools and increase physical security (Daily Wire). Townhall: In Thursday’s White House press briefing, Karine Jean-Pierre made the Biden administration’s clearly partisan position clear regarding legislation aimed at making schools and students safer: Biden won’t consider anything other than a ban on “assault weapons” (Townhall). Katie Pavlich: White House is rejecting legislation from MarshaBlackburn to give states millions in grant money for school security to train veterans and other capable people to protect and harden schools. They only want a ban on semi-automatic rifles (Twitter).

White House: "Our hearts go out to the trans community, as they are under attack”
PJ Media: Despite the tragic loss of six lives in Monday’s mass shooting at a Christian school by a biological woman who identified as transgender, it sadly appears that little attention is being paid to the victims. Rather, Democrats and the mainstream media have hijacked the narrative and expressed more concern about the potential backlash from the “far right” against the transgender community. Some radical leftists have gone so far as to blame the state of Tennessee for the shooting because it passed laws that limit the transitioning of children. During Thursday’s press briefing, Karine Jean Pierre seemed to suggest that this may have played a role in the tragic event (PJ Media). Townhall: KJP: “Our hearts go out to the trans community, as they are under attack right now” (Twitter).

Protesters Rush Tennessee Capitol Building Demanding Gun Control
New York Post: Hundreds of people gathered outside the Tennessee state Capitol in Nashville Thursday morning to rally for gun control in the wake of the deadly shooting earlier this week at the Covenant School. The protest was planned by AWAKE, a Tennessee nonprofit dedicated to improving conditions for women and children in the state (New York Post). Nashville Scene: Hundreds are gathered at the state Capitol in downtown Nashville following Monday’s Covenant School shooting. They’re chanting, holding signs and calling for gun reform (Twitter). Jack Posobiec: LEFTISTS STORM TENNESSEE CAPITOL (Twitter). Ian Miles Cheong: A mostly peaceful protest is underway in the Tennessee Capitol. The reporter deleted the original tweet with this video because viewers correctly identified it as an “insurrection” (Twitter).

Wall Street Journal Journalist Jailed in Russia; Charged with “Spying”
Katie Pavlich: News broke Thursday morning that the Russian government detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich under “spying” charges. Gershkovich worked out of the paper’s Moscow bureau (Townhall). Wall Street Journal: The Biden administration condemned the detention of a Wall Street Journal reporter in Russia for what Moscow described as espionage, the first such case of an American journalist detained for allegations of spying since the Cold War. The White House said that the State Department had been in touch with the Russian government concerning the arrest of reporter Evan Gershkovich and that it was communicating with the Journal about his case. “The targeting of American citizens by the Russian government is unacceptable,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement (Wall Street Journal). Disclose.tv: U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Russia should depart immediately — State Dept (Twitter).

Joe Manchin Upset Democrats Not using Inflation Reduction Act as Intended
Washington Examiner: Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) was the biggest loser in politics in 2022. And only now is he admitting just how badly he lost. Manchin claims he is concerned about the national debt. When he and President Joe Biden met to discuss the Inflation Reduction Act, he said, “we agreed that the bill was designed to pay down our national debt and shore up America’s energy security.” But now, “instead of implementing the law as intended, unelected ideologues, bureaucrats, and appointees seem determined to violate and subvert the law to advance a partisan agenda that ignores both energy and fiscal security.” Manchin is most upset that these bureaucrats are “ignoring the law’s intent to support and expand fossil energy.” He claims that the Biden administration is trying to “implement the bill it wanted, not the bill Congress actually passed” and that only Biden can stop this by talking to members of Congress and halting the redefining of the law (Washington Examiner). Joe Manchin: Unless common-sense actions are taken now, America’s energy security will not only be jeopardized, but we will soon approach a debt-ceiling calamity that is completely avoidable (Wall Street Journal).

ABC News to Lay Off 50 Staff Members, Executives
Reuters: Walt Disney Co’s ABC News laid off several senior executives on Thursday, as it restructures its newsroom, two sources confirmed. The reductions are part of Disney’s previously announced plan to cut 7,000 positions across the company as it seeks to control costs and become a more streamlined operation. About 50 jobs will be eliminated over time, including open positions. The layoffs began this week, affecting other facets of Disney’s operations, including its Marvel Entertainment division, television production and those working on next-generation storytelling initiatives (Reuters).

Reparations Lobbyists in California: “5 million in reparations is too little”
Fox News: Activists on Wednesday demanded that the state of California pay millions of dollars to each Black resident in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery and subsequent discrimination, dismissing the idea of payments of $5 million per person as “nothing” and “too little.” The demands were made at an in-person meeting of the California Reparations Task Force, which was created by state legislation signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020. The committee was hearing comments from the public as it considers final recommendations to submit to the California Legislature, which will then decide whether to implement the measures and send them to Newsom’s desk to be signed into law. The task force is considering a proposal to give just under $360,000 per person to approximately 1.8 million Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in the U.S., putting the total cost of the program at about $640 billion (Fox News).

Male Canadian Power Lifting Coach Trolls Competition by Breaking Record in Women’s Category
National Review: A male Canadian powerlifting coach broke the Alberta women’s bench-press record over the weekend in an act of protest against the presiding organization’s extremely lenient trans-inclusion policy. Ari Silverberg, who does not identify as transgender, participated in the 84+ kg category at the Canadian Powerlifting Union’s (CPU) “Heroes Classic.” Silverberg bested transgender-identifying male competitor Anne Andres, who watched him from the audience (National Review). ICONS Women: Team Canada powerlifting coach, Avi Silverberg just broke the Alberta WOMEN’s bench press record in the 84+ kg category at the “Heroes Classic.” Former record holder, trans-identifying male, Anne Andres had a front row view as Silverberg mocked the discriminatory CPU policy by also unofficially breaking the women’s world record in the event (Twitter).

Trans Guest on MSNBC: “God made me in her image. God made me transgender"
Julio Rosas: MSNBC is focusing on what they deem to be the true victims in the shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee that left three children and three adults dead: the transgender community. Host Joy Reid had transgender activist Charlotte Clymer on her show to give a response to conservatives pointing out the shooter was transgender and how that might have played a role in targeting the Covenant School. Fox News host Tucker Carlson stated this week Christianity and trans ideology are inherently opposed to each other. “I would challenge anyone just to get to know trans people. We’re a vibrant, diverse community. I’m from the great state of Texas, I served in the military, I go to church every Sunday. My faith is very important to me, but God made me in her image. God made me transgender,” Clymer stated.  (Townhall). MSNBC: Joy Reid: “What do you feel…when somebody like Tucker Carlson says that transgender people are at war with Christians?” Charlotte Clymer: “I can’t see Christ in their words” (Twitter).
