Donald Trump has been indicted over an illegal hush money payment to
Stormy Daniels in the days before the 2016 election and illegally cooking
the books to cover it up.^1
 
Trump is now the first former president in American history to be
indicted. It's an important step to try to preserve American democracy and
ensure that nobody is above the law.
 
In an echo of Trump's appeals just before the January 6 insurrection,
Trump has called for his supporters to "protest" and "take back our
nation," employing white-supremacist and antisemitic tropes, potentially
provoking waves of far-right violence.^2
 
To mark Trump's indictment and ensure he is held to account, MoveOn has

He is at the center of a criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020
election.^4
 
He stole and destroyed federal documents and lied to obstruct the
investigation into it.^5
 
And he remains the subject of several criminal investigations and civil
lawsuits for his crimes.^6
 
As we continue to await the results of those investigations, today's
indictment represents a turning point in finally starting to hold Trump
