As a former professor, I know when people are stalling because they don’t
have the answer to a question. So when witnesses do this during
congressional hearings, there’s a phrase I love to use: reclaiming my
time.
Now, I know I email you these long messages, and you might be thinking—get
to the point. [ [link removed] ]So in the interest of reclaiming your time, here are the
quick(!) answers to why I’m asking for your $5 today.
Q: Why are you the right candidate to represent California in the U.S.
Senate?
A: We need someone to fight the battles of tomorrow, stand up to special
interests, and “do Congress” in a way that connects with Americans—many of
whom are disillusioned with our government. I’ve spent my career taking on
some of the most powerful corporations and delivering for working people,
and I’m ready to take our fight to the Senate.
Q: What’s the advantage of giving *today* rather than next week?
A: Tomorrow is the final day of the quarter, and that means we’ll soon be
required to report how much we’ve raised since our campaign launched.
Reporting a strong number can deter future attacks and proves that we
don’t need corporate PACs or lobbyists to run a winning campaign.
Q: How do my donations get used?
A: Right now your donations help us put on events, hire staff, and lay the
groundwork for our campaign. But we also begin saving and planning ahead
for our substantial ad buys. Another candidate jumped into this race with
three times the cash we had, so we know we need to catch up.
[ [link removed] ]John, I’d be
so appreciative of any donation you can make before tomorrow at midnight.
