Friends,
This week was a big one for House Republicans. Today we passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. I spoke on the House floor to advocate for this common sense bill that's packed full of constructive energy policies which will support American oil and gas production and provide relief to the American people.
I also spoke at the Energy and Commerce Committee markup on how we should reform our asylum process to prioritize the people escaping true persecution, not those with a geographical benefit.
Sincerely,

Energy Security is Under Attack
This week House Republicans passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. It’s our top priority (which is why it was given #1 as the bill number) and it’s full of commonsense, uncontroversial energy policy. Yet somehow Democrats are against the bill, and argue that it kills the planet because it supports American oil and gas production. Any person with the ability to think critically knows this: we can’t survive on a wind and solar-only energy future. It’s unreliable, and it’s irresponsible for my colleagues on the left to continue pushing this narrative. H.R. 1 is a comprehensive energy package that rescinds a lot of the disastrous energy policy of the Biden Administration. H.R. 1 removes permitting obstacles for U.S. LNG, which can provide safe, clean, affordable, and abundant energy to the world and displace foreign coal—the primary driver of global emissions. We make it easier to tap into America’s vast deposits of critical minerals, which we need to make things like batteries and steel domestically rather than relying on China. And this bill includes two provisions I introduced to protect America’s oil refining capacity and make it easier for states to develop carbon capture projects. This is what it’s all about – affordable, reliable energy produced right here in America. We produce the cleanest energy in the world and when we export that energy abroad, we lower global emissions. This bill checks all the boxes, and it’s disappointing that Democrats reflexively refuse to support it.
Hey AMLO - Listen to Your People
My office is getting calls from MEXICAN citizens about the importance of stopping the cartels, and now Mexican officials (like this Senator) are speaking out. We can’t let the President of Mexico intimidate us into silence or further inaction. He’s on the wrong side of history. The United States and Mexico must be partners in combatting the cartels because they’re a common enemy. President AMLO should listen to his citizens and work *with* the United States to stop the drug cartels from killing Mexicans and Americans.
This is Why Our Asylum System is Broken
When Democrats oppose commonsense border security measures they often base their opposition in “compassionate” terms about protecting asylum seekers. But a lot of the left’s arguments on this issue aren’t based in facts or logic. Here’s the issue—the vast majority of “asylum seekers” who come to our southern border are simply economic migrants. They have no valid asylum claims whatsoever, and they’re overwhelming our system, preventing true asylum seekers from coming to the United States. Migrants with real asylum cases from around the world can’t even get a hearing because our system is so bogged down with bogus claims of asylum. How do we know the claims are bogus? Because only 13% of asylum cases are actually granted to migrants from Northern Triangle countries (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras) when their case is adjudicated in asylum court. There is very strict criteria for being granted asylum, and the vast majority of migrants from these countries simply do not meet the legal threshold for asylum. A truly compassionate asylum system would prioritize taking care of the people escaping true persecution. That’s what we should be focusing on.
A Foreign Policy Lesson in Under 3 Minutes
I was recently asked by Sara Carter how we should think about American interests abroad. My answer? It should be America First. But make no mistake, letting our adversaries conquer other countries and gobble up resources by force is anything but “America First.” I address this head on in this clip.
