[email protected] | (785) 280-9320 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rep. Mann Votes to Unleash American Energy, Lower Costs WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted yes to H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 225-204. “Since his first day in office, President Biden launched an unprecedented war on American energy, which caused prices to skyrocket and compromised our national security,” said Rep, Mann. “H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, will put an end to that. This legislation would unleash American energy and lower costs for families by increasing domestic energy production, reforming permitting processes, reversing anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration, streamlining energy infrastructure and exports, and boosting the production and processing of critical minerals. When I meet with Kansans in the Big First, I hear countless concerns about the impact of inflation and government overreach. Kansans are tired of paying the price for President Biden’s reckless spending and shortsighted Green New Deal agenda. Between January 2021 and the fall of 2022, the average Kansan’s monthly energy costs increased by $153. Price increases like that crush people’s lives and livelihoods. To get our country back on track and restore American energy independence, we must cut red tape and unleash our energy potential. If we fail to do so, we don’t just risk our energy security, but our national security as well.” Kansas is home to hundreds of thousands of oil and natural gas wells that were drilled in the state since the late 19th century and that have produced more than 6.7 billion barrels of oil and 41.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The oil and gas industry is an important piece of rural communities, supporting the economy through careers, market development, and affordable energy. The Lower Energy Costs Act: Prohibits President Biden from banning hydraulic fracturing Repeals President Biden’s $6 billion natural gas tax Requires the Department of the Interior to resume lease sales on federal lands and waters Reforms the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) permitting process to streamline federal reviews Ends the abuse of the water quality certification process by streamlining the permitting process under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act and limiting review to water quality impacts only Click here for the full text of the legislation.
