This absolutely enraging quote comes from New Jersey state Senator Ed Durr, and he’s pretty much saying the quiet part out loud when it comes to conservative attempts to restrict abortion. In just the last few weeks, this is only a small sample of the attacks we’ve seen:

• A man in Texas suing three women for helping his ex-wife access an abortion
• Lawmakers in South Carolina tried to advance a bill that would make abortion punishable by the death penalty
• Florida moving closer to passing a six-week abortion ban
• A law in Utah that restricts where abortions can be provided, effectively banning abortion in the state

There’s no question it’s bad out there, John. On top of the non-stop attacks on abortion, 11 states are attempting to criminalize gender-affirming care for trans kids, with more following suit. Across the country, bill after bill seeks to stop trans kids from playing sports and eliminate LGBTQ+ books from schools and public libraries. And we just passed another Equal Pay Day on March 14, making it clear we still have a long way to go to ensure equal pay for equal work.

In the face of all this, the work of the National Women’s Law Center is more vital than ever. For 50 years, we’ve played a role in the biggest political and legal victories for gender justice.
