Medicare for All

Hey friends,

Medicare for All was once again the centerpiece of the Democratic debate last night. But if we’re being honest, it was a little messy. The moderators let the discussion run wild, and a whole lot of corporate-funded talking points got blended in. We’re here to set that straight.

  • Falsehood #1: "Medicare for All will raise taxes on the middle class." This is straight out of the fear-mongering playbook. The truth is, increases in taxes would be more than offset by the elimination of premiums, deductibles, and copays.
  • Falsehood #2: "People don’t want to lose their private insurance." In reality, people like their nurses, who provide them with direct patient care, and the doctors who treat them, not the multinational insurance conglomerate that requires preauthorizations for treatments and may deny their claims. And, under Medicare for All, you’ll be able to keep seeing any qualified health care provider no matter where they are.
  • Falsehood #3: "It will hand Trump and the GOP the election." Just look at any poll. Literally any of them. Not only is Medicare for All supported by a majority of Republican voters, but by 70% of all Americans in general.

We have come incredibly far since the 2016 elections, and momentum is on our side. But it’s clear we must keep up the fight. That’s why we’re hosting dozens of People’s Assemblies across the country to train organizers on how to confront and pressure their Representatives on this issue. And there’s one near you.

We’re taking the fight for Medicare for All to the next level this summer to bring more ordinary Americans into the fold, turn up the heat on our politicians, and fight for a health care system that works for everyone.

We can win this. Our movement has more support nationwide than at any other time in U.S. history, and we’re going to keep building on that together.

In solidarity,
