Dear John,
The deadline to have your gift matched for the Boundary Waters is just a day away so I’ll keep this quick: you already know that the Boundary Waters is special. But did you know that because of the lack of light pollution, the stars shimmer brighter, the Milky Way is more vivid, and the chances of seeing the Northern lights are more likely ?

As we emerge from the cocoon of winter, the pressures of modern society might seem busier than ever. But life in the Boundary Waters continues its rhythmic pace with the slow arrival of Spring . The ice is melting, the birds are chirping, and the ground beneath your favorite campsite is beginning to thaw. Plus, it’s the time of the vernal (spring) equinox, and equinox time frames are some of the best for Northern lights sightings
I’ve been “chasing the aurora” for the past few years, and have been fortunate enough to see them dancing above the lakes and forests of the Wilderness countless times. Below are some of my favorite recent photos of the magical aurora borealis in the Boundary Waters. Last week, many lucky Minnesotans (maybe you were one of them!) - in all areas of the state - were treated to the aurora directly overhead. This was a rare and beautiful sighting. To mark this occasion, we are offering limited edition Boundary Waters Northern lights stickers to everyone who makes a matched gift [[link removed]] before tomorrow, March 31! [[link removed]]

The dark skies of the Boundary Waters are truly unrivaled. In fact, the Boundary Waters is a designated International Dark Sky Sanctuary - one of only 14 in the world. To gaze at the stars on a clear, unpolluted sky is a breathtaking experience. However, as light pollution increases worldwide, we risk losing the powerful display of our universe. It is up to all of us to ensure future generations are able to connect with the night sky.

Let’s make sure future generations can experience the awe and wonder of the Northern lights. When you make a gift of any amount before TOMORROW, March 31, your gift will be automatically doubled [[link removed]] - making twice the impact on safeguarding our beloved Boundary Waters and the dark skies above it. Not to mention, you will be eligible to receive a limited edition Boundary Waters Northern lights sticker (pictured below).
