Center on Budget and Policy Priorities staff ratify first contract
Workers at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities on Monday ratified the first collective bargaining agreement between CBPP and the staff union. “We are proud of this agreement and excited about the direction it will take the organization as we work to advance CBPP’s mission,” said union bargaining representative and CBPP staff member Paul Jones. “I am so grateful to our bargaining unit members for the solidarity they all showed throughout negotiations.” The workers are represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU), IFPTE Local 70.
The contract expands worker voice, increases transparency in management practices, promotes equity, and increases compensation, paid time off and benefits particularly for new and lower-paid employees. “The new contract will bring tangible benefits to employees,” said CBPP President Robert Greenstein. “The negotiation process and the contract itself reflect a spirit of cooperation and an emphasis on shared values. I’m proud of the work of the entire staff and our commitment to making CBPP the most effective organization it can be.” The CBPP in 2018 voluntarily recognized the staff union represented by NPEU.
DC City Council candidates invited to forum
If you’re planning a run for the DC City Council this year, make sure you join the DC Labor Council for its first-ever candidate education forum this coming Monday. The forum is open to all who are seeking to run in the 2020 DC City Council election and will feature DC-area union leaders, including Dyana Forester (UFCW Local 400), Djawa Hall (1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East MD/DC), and Herbert Harris (BLET Division 482), among others, including representatives in education and hospitality. “You don't want to miss this opportunity to hear directly from union leaders and their legislative expectations in the coming years,” says Metro Washington Council Political Director David Stephen. This event is for candidates and their staff only.
