Outright International brought a historic number of activists to the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Our Caribbean, African, LBQ Connect partners, and UN Rights and Religion Fellows were among the delegates who were able to engage with movement leaders and UN Member States.  
 
Our Publications and Commentaries
Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill, passed in parliament on March 21, 2023, will be the world’s most draconian anti-LGBTQ legislation if enacted into law. President Museveni has 30 days to decide whether to assent to the law. Ugandan and international businesses, humanitarian organizations, and development partners should use their influence to staunchly oppose the bill.

Advocacy Week serves as a platform for LGBTIQ voices worldwide to reflect, capacity-build, and share experiences. In this article, activists from Namibia, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Vietnam, and the Philippines share their progress, challenges, and  ideas to advance their mission in creating a better life for the communities they serve. 
Celebrating Gender Identities and Expressions: In Native Hawaiian culture, there is a place in the middle. Māhūs are third-gender people with spiritual and social roles. Hinaleimoana Kwai Kong Wong-Kalu, also known as Kumu Hina, is a Māhū activist. She has been trying to preserve and promote indigenous culture to young and queer generations. Outright International’s 2023 UN Rights and Religion Fellows are already settling into their 12-month program. This year’s representatives hail from Brazil, St. Lucia, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Botswana, and Afghanistan. Learn more about our fellows.
Advocating for Equality: Panama’s Supreme Court has joined the Peruvian Constitutional Court in opposing the recognition of same-sex marriage. The court ruling has been described as unjustified as the judicial body refused to see the decision as a human rights issue. Read the article.
Engagement at the United Nations: Our UN Advocacy Fellow, Hannah Kohn, interviewed Colombia Diversa's Peace and Transitional Justice Coordinator, María Susana Peralta Ramón, to discuss their work on  inclusive gender justice.

To mark Trans Day of Visibility, Rikki Nathanson, Outright’s Senior Advisor for the Global Trans Program, expressed fears that the gains made to protect trans people may be dealt a blow due to the wave of anti-trans sentiments. Read more.
