Dear Friend,
The theme of Women’s History Month this year is “celebrating women who tell our stories.”
At Peace Over Violence, we are all about telling stories, celebrating stories, and uplifting the voices of women in our communities. From our founding days in 1971, POV has strived to be a storytelling agency, and we understand the power and responsibility that comes with that.
Speaking of stories, we are gearing up for our 24th annual Denim Day next month, which started from a story that came out of Italy in 1999. An Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans, ruling and reasoning that because they were tight she must have helped her attacker remove them, implying consent. Women in Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans the next day. Patti Giggans saw this in Los Angeles and was inspired to develop Denim Day, now the longest running sexual violence prevention education campaign in history. Learn more about Denim Day here.
