First responders' trauma rehab centre gets $9.6M funding boost in Ontario budget

A $9.6-million pledge from the Ontario government will now help rescue the rescuers.
The investment, announced Thursday as part of the province’s 2023 budget, will help speed up the development of the Runnymede Healthcare Centre’s dedicated rehabilitation and wellness centre for first responders — police, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, medical staff and corrections officers — experiencing post-traumatic stress and other mental health challenges.

Fallen Edmonton police officers honoured at regimental funeral: 'They were loved'

Two Edmonton police officers killed in line of duty were remembered fondly Monday by family members and colleagues at a regimental funeral attended by thousands of officers from across Canada.
Travis Jordan, 35, and Brett Ryan, 30, were fatally shot on March 16 while responding to a family dispute at an apartment complex in northwest Edmonton.

Police took a man into custody after a violent incident on a Thunder Bay Transit bus on the weekend.
Thunder Bay Police said it happened late Saturday afternoon after Superior North EMS paramedics were called to the Churchill Drive and Edward Street area where a transit passenger was described as being unconscious.

County Council to discuss money for paramedic staffing Tuesday

Prince Edward County will be asked to approve a funding request for neighbouring Hastings County Council at Tuesday's meeting.
County councillors are expected to discuss Hastings County's request to kick in an additional $437,000 to boost paramedic staffing levels.
It is one of a number of items with a combined $45-million needed for shared services.

Tahsis man, 54, joins wife as rural paramedic team

When paramedic Mike Mountan slides into the driver’s seat of the ambulance at Station 133 in Tahsis, he’s often sitting with someone he knows very well — his wife of 30 years, Virginia.
“It’s definitely been a journey,” Mountan told CHEK News Thursday. “I saw a need and I wanted to help my community.”
The journey began during a nine-day power outage that affected a huge area of the west coast in January 2022.

Town of Erin, City of Guelph agree on a new lease for paramedics

You can count on paramedics to answer calls for emergency service as a new deal has been developed between the Town of Erin and the City of Guelph.
Town council voted in favour of a motion to approve a new a lease agreement between Erin Fire and Emergency Services and Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services to use Station 50 at a meeting on March 23.
