The 50CAN Family
is Growing Again
I am thrilled to announce an exciting new addition to our growing network of education advocacy campaigns: Louisiana Kids Matter ([link removed]) .
Led by Kelli Bottger, an experienced education advocate and former educator, this campaign will champion the next wave of bold education policies in Louisiana, ensuring every student has access to a great education that propels them towards a brighter future.
Kelli’s work in education began as a fourth-grade math and science teacher. During her seven years in the classroom, she held numerous leadership roles, including serving as a mentor teacher and creating district-wide curriculum and assessments for students. Building on her experiences as a teacher, Kelli stepped into the role of education advocate, first as the Government Affairs and Communications Director for the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL) and later as the Director of Political Strategy for the American Federation for Children.
Kelli's extensive background in electoral, legislative and educational leadership makes her the ideal leader for this critical moment in time. While Louisiana has made great strides in recent decades, there is still so much more to be done. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), only 28% of Louisiana's 4th-grade students were proficient in reading, and 27% were proficient in math in 2022. Louisiana's students deserve better, and we know that with Kelli’s leadership and the support of the state’s families, educators, and elected leaders, much more is possible.
Louisiana Kids Matter will focus on the following key goals ([link removed]) in 2023, aligned to the 50CAN Believe in Better ([link removed]) policy framework:
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Kelli Bottger ([link removed]) and the entire Louisiana Kids Matter team. We invite you to follow Louisiana Kids Matter to stay updated on their progress and learn how you can support their efforts.
