Friend, from the very moment of production, plastics are

● FIRST → Massive amounts of fossil fuels are burned to make plastic, emitting harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and worsening global warming.

● MEANWHILE → The hazardous pollutants from these industrial-sized facilities are released into the air, posing serious health risks for nearby residents, who are most often rural, low-wealth, and communities of
color.

● THEN → A garbage truck of plastic waste ends up in the ocean every minute, killing over a million marine species like baby sea turtles that often mistake plastic debris for food, become
entangled in it, or choke to death.

● OR → The plastic that doesn’t end up in our waters and oceans gets dumped into
landfills or burned, seeping into the soils, contaminating our crops and air, building up and accumulating on Earth without decomposing.

● NOW → Because plastic doesn’t disappear, it instead breaks down into tiny toxic
microplastics that are currently making their way into our food, water, and air.

● …SOON → If plastic pollution continues at this rate, plastics will completely consume our planet, and the PLASTIC APOCALYPSE will threaten to destroy life on Earth as we know it.

After the shale gas boom significantly increased drilling and fracking in the
