** Teachers Union President Randi Weingarten Calls for Gun Ban
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Breitbart News reports ([link removed]) that American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten ([link removed]) pushed a ban on an entire category of firearms, urging the U.S. to have the “courage” that Scotland and Australia showed in enacting their stringent gun controls.
“Today, we renew our call for common sense gun safety legislation, including a ban on assault weapons. This is an epidemic,” Weingarten said ([link removed]) , according to FOX News. “It’s an epidemic that our great nation must solve. And how many lives will be shattered before we have the courage to do what Scotland did, what Australia did, what New Zealand did, what other great democracies do? We must solve this epidemic, and that’s up to us.”
The AFT partnered ([link removed]) with Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, a prominent gun control lobby group, to “[call] on lawmakers to stand up to the gun lobby.”
On February 7, Breitbart News pointed to ([link removed]) an ABC/Washington Post poll which showed that the majority of Americans oppose an “assault weapons” ban. In 2019, the Associated Press reported ([link removed]) that AFT joined with Everytown to oppose teachers in Florida having the option to be armed for classroom defense.

** Critical Race Theory & Contempt for America
------------------------------------------------------------
On July 27, 2021, Weingarten penned a CNN.com opinion piece ([link removed]) in favor of teaching the tenets of Critical Race Theory ([link removed]) (CRT), an academic discipline which maintains that: (a) society is divided along racial lines into (white) oppressors and (black) victims, similar to the way Marx ([link removed]) ism frames the oppressor/victim dichotomy along class lines; and (b) America is permanently racist to its core, meaning that the nation’s legal structures are, by definition, racist and invalid. “Culture warriors are suddenly labeling ([link removed]) any discussion of race, racism, discrimination or struggle as critical race theory in an attempt to drive
a wedge between Americans and prevent the full and accurate teaching of the American Experiment,” wrote Weingarten. Although “it’s a contrived uproar ([link removed]) over something that is not even taught in elementary and secondary schools,” she added, “we need to know the unvarnished truth about our history so we can do better.” “My union, the American Federation of Teachers, will defend any member who gets in trouble for teaching honest history,” pledged Weingarten. “We have a legal defense fund ([link removed]) ready to go. And we are preparing for litigation as we speak.”
During a July 2021 broadcast ([link removed]) of the MSNBC program Deadline: White House, Weingarten condemned a newly passed Texas law that, by her telling, “basically says that teachers are supposed to say that slavery is a betrayal of the founding principles of our country.” “Now, you know that that’s not true,” Weingarten continued. “I mean, there’s lots of great founding principles of our country, but slavery was embedded in the Constitution.”
