Friends, if you know one thing about me, it might be that I’m really passionate about representation in government. To me, it’s a no-brainer: If we don’t have women in Congress (as one example), how on earth can we expect Congress to have an understanding of the challenges faced by more than half our country’s population? (Let alone find solutions to those challenges!)
So right now, with Congressional re-election campaigns back in full swing, I’m focused on my own race - but I’m also thinking about the bigger picture of what our next Congress might look like.
The way I see it, if we can harness our collective passion and power to support not just one, but lots of women running for office, we can do a lot of things at once:
*
Elect
more
Democratic
women
*
Secure
better
representation
for
the
American
people
*
And
take
back
the
House
in
2024
So here’s my pitch to you today: Make an impact on the big picture by splitting a donation between my re-election campaign and the 15 women of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Frontline. [[link removed]] These are the incumbent Democrats that our party leadership has determined MOST need your support in the upcoming elections.
When we zoom out, we can see big strides on this front. Last year, we elected one of the most diverse Congresses in history, with women making up 28% of all members. That’s a big deal.
But the truth is that, by and large, Congress remains a very male, very white, and very cisgender legislative body. Throughout our country’s history, leaders have far too often used their positions of power to represent their own interests in policymaking and governance. It’s why we’re still fighting for basic human rights for anyone who doesn’t fit that mold, and it’s why we still have so much more to do.
I’m committed to using my time in Congress to tackle critical issues like fighting climate change and securing reproductive freedoms. We can’t cede any ground in our fight for representation. That’s one reason holding the seats we already have is so critical - it’s a lot easier to keep making gains if we’re not simultaneously dealing with losses!
So let’s do this. Click here to split a donation between me and 15 of my Democratic colleagues who are running in important races in 2024. [[link removed]]
You’ll be helping the races of →
Mary Peltola (AK-AL), Yadira Caraveo (CO-08), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), Sharice Davids (KS-03), Hillary Scholten (MI-03), Angie Craig (MN-02), Susie Lee (NV-03), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Emilia Sykes (OH-13), Andrea Salinas (OR-06), Susan Wild (PA-07), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03), and Kim Schrier (WA-08).
Representation matters. For our communities, our health care, our ability to move through the world without fear, and our right to exist as our truest selves.
Representation is critical for the future we want to create for the next generation.
With your help, we can continue to build a more inclusive, representative House and keep fighting for legislation that helps ALL people, not just some. Will you chip in to support women in Congress? Your gift will be split between my re-election campaign and 15 other Congresswomen who need your help this cycle. [[link removed]]
Thank you so much.
-Sara
