John,

I just spoke with NPR about how sitting members of Congress are aiding January 6th defendants by visiting them in jail and releasing raw Capitol security footage to Fox News.

Look John, members of Congress are expected to represent the American people and look out for our democratic system.

After January 6th, 2021, there was an opportunity for members of Congress across the political spectrum to come together and condemn what was truly an attack on our democracy.

But instead, we’ve seen members of Congress like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Speaker Kevin McCarthy conclude that it was in their political interest to downplay what happened on January 6th, and to make excuses for the people who attacked the Capitol. By doing that, they are undercutting and undermining the system that they have sworn to protect.

We have to take a stand for our democracy. We have to remove from office those leaders who engaged in insurrection and hold accountable those in positions of power who are undermining our democracy. That’s the work CREW is doing day in and day out, and we could really use your support.

We have seen that historically, the first attempt to violently overthrow a democracy tends not to work. But when the perpetrators or their allies twist the narrative and lay the groundwork for another attack, then democracies are at even higher risk.

When you have Donald Trump – the person who incited the insurrection – running for president again, ramping up his violent rhetoric, and members of Congress taking his side and associating with insurrectionists, that’s an ethics problem. And it’s a democracy problem.

In accepting Trump’s rhetoric, Republican members of Congress are laying the groundwork for another violent attack on our democratic system.

We cannot let that happen. So I’m asking you today to please make a donation to CREW and help us fight to defend our democracy and hold anti-democratic leaders accountable → [[link removed]]
