You know, folks, when I first came to Washington, I was a little skeptical. Sure, I had served in public office before — and won a couple close races in the process – but I wasn’t your typical politician by any stretch of the imagination.
Before I entered politics, I was a geologist turned brewer with a questionable fashion sense. I first ran for office because I felt like the concerns of everyday folks like you simply weren’t being heard. I decided enough was enough and took a big leap of faith. And when I won, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.
But was a can-do attitude enough to penetrate the partisanship plaguing our nation’s capital? It wasn’t going to be easy, but I was up for the challenge – especially if it meant improving the lives of Coloradans AND bringing change to Washington in the process.
And guess what, folks? Over the last two years, we’ve seen some of the largest and most consequential pieces of legislation signed into law with strong bipartisan support.
We’ve invested billions in the fight against climate change, expanded access to affordable health care, made historic investments in our aging infrastructure, and finally brought manufacturing jobs back to America.
What I’ve learned is this: Washington works best when you put politics aside and find common sense solutions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. If you're willing to work in good faith to make people’s lives better, count me in.
We’ve made so much progress these last 2 years, and I’m honored to be your voice in Washington. And with our first critical FEC end-of-quarter deadline quickly approaching, I’m personally asking: Will you donate $5 or any amount so we can continue this important work moving forward? There’s still so much to do, and we can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Thanks for listening.
