Restoring the Broken Pieces of Our Lives
Author Elisa Morgan remembers the day she heard a loud crash somewhere in the house and discovered her three-shelf hutch had fallen from the wall and shattered her late grandmotherâs antique china collection into pieces on the floor. The worst part was realizing that she could do nothing to fix it.
As she swept up the broken shards, other moments came to mind when something precious to her shattered beyond repair.
The first time was when she was five years old, and her parents announced their divorce.
Another time was at age 11, when she was made responsible for getting her mom out of bed in the morning after a night of drinking.
It happened yet again as an adult when she discovered that her teenage daughter was pregnant.
Although my own story is different, I can relate to Elisaâs pain. My life shattered into pieces when I was nine years old, and my mother died. Then things kept right on shattering. My step-dad abandoned me and my siblings within hours of my motherâs funeral. My biological father later died of alcoholism, and I was placed in foster care. By the time I was 18 years old, I had lived in 23 different homes or apartments.
You probably have shattered parts of your own.
On our Focus on the Family Broadcast âRestoring the Broken Pieces of Our Lives,â Elisa Morgan shares her journey of discovering that God is always right there with us in our suffering. He is always working to heal and restore the broken pieces of our lives and to turn our tragedies into blessings.
