The most dangerous developed nation in the world for a woman to give birth in is ours .
For a Republican party that rabidly screams how pro-life they are in every single floor speech, they sure have left mothers-to-be at the bottom of their legislative priority list.
What the numbers show is a maternal health care disaster:
*
Seven
million
American
women
live
in
counties
with
limited
or
no
maternity
facilities
or
qualified
labor
and
delivery
staff.
*
About
half
of
all
rural
community
hospitals
did
not
provide
obstetrics
care
in
2020
and
fewer
than
half
of
all
women
in
rural
areas
are
able
to
find
perinatal
care
within
30
miles
of
their
homes.
As we sit and wait to see if an anti-choice federal judge will outlaw the most common abortion medication in the country, MAGA extremists have created a dire situation for rural women where not only is it excessively difficult to access family planning and abortion services, but they also lack access to even basic maternity care.
We're pleased to see President Biden's 2024 budget proposes solid steps to help rural women and slow this downward spiral, but we're not even close to the finish line yet.
As anti-choice extremists escalate their war on women's health, we will continue to fight to make sure our rural communities can get critical reproductive care. One Country Project is putting the pressure on our leaders to pass this budget to keep hospitals solvent, maternity wards open, and stay out of our personal medical choices.
