John,

Iman Thabit is from Taizz in southwestern Yemen. She has lived there for 40 years, since she was five years old. Overnight, Iman’s world was shattered.

"We fled our home when a rocket landed on it and destroyed it. All our belongings were burnt. It’s true that we were all safe, but our house — the most important thing we own — was destroyed. We became homeless.”

Iman and her family are just some of the millions of Yemenis who have been displaced by the last eight years of conflict and humanitarian crisis, which have destroyed the economy and caused crushing poverty. More than 80% of the population now live below the poverty line and critical infrastructure like water systems, health centres and schools are either closed or in desperate need of repair.

Iman has no regular source of income. “Rent is expensive, so we are always at risk of eviction. Whatever money we get, we use it for rent, sending our children to school, and buying necessities. We try hard to make ends meet.”

UNHCR is providing lifesaving support to the most vulnerable displaced Yemenis — we provide shelter, emergency relief items, psychological support and cash assistance so that families, older people and other most vulnerable people can cover necessities like food, rent and medicine.

After years of conflict, Yemenis deserve as much stability and solidarity as we can provide. Your ongoing support can help ease the burden on families, put a roof over their heads and help them focus on their families’ needs, like sending their children to school and caring for older relatives. Please give generously today.

Best regards,
