Local elections in Nottingham

Local elections are happening across England on 4 May, including in Nottingham. During the period running up to the election, we will be issuing weekly news bulletins in place of those from the Leader and Deputy Leader.

Anyone wanting to vote in the local elections must be registered to vote by 11.59pm on Monday 17 April 2023. To register to vote online, you just need five minutes and your National Insurance number. Visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote [ [link removed] ].

Anyone voting in person at a polling station will now be required to show an accepted form of photo ID to be able to vote. The is a new requirement to show photo ID, introduced by the UK Government’s Elections Act which comes into effect for the first time this May. For more information here [ [link removed] ], including which forms of photo ID will be accepted.

If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free document known as a Voter Authority Certificate here [ [link removed] ]. You should do this as soon as possible, and no later than 5pm on 25 April 2023. You can also vote by post, where no photo ID is required, here [ [link removed] ].

Eat Them to Defeat Them!

Veg Power

Eat Culture, Nottingham Catering are putting the fun back into school lunch time with a campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables. The award winning Eat Them to Defeat Them campaign from Veg Power in partnership with ITV has been taking place in over 2,000 schools across the UK.

With superhero veg masks and veg ambassador lanyards schoolchildren at Southglade Primary School have been serving vegetable tasters to their class mates ahead of the recipe day.

Dressed at carrots and corn on the cob the Catering Team have been serving a delicious variety of international Veg Power recipes.

Children have been enjoying Morrocan Couscous Clash, South American Chilli, African Jollof and Italian Pasta Power Play as one of their meal options in participating schools.



Active Nottingham gyms undergo a major transformation

Active Nottingham Gym

The gyms at Clifton Leisure Centre and Harvey Hadden Sports Village reopened to the public yesterday (Tuesday 28 March) after being transformed as part of a wider £1.5m investment for new equipment.

The revamp at Clifton and Harvey Hadden features premium equipment from Life Fitness, Hammer Strength and ICG ® – suitable for all training interests and fitness levels. The new kit also features immersive digital experiences with new cardio consoles, a functional zone with a stretching area and environmentally friendly Green Zones with self-powered equipment so more can be done to help the environment.

On Monday 27 March, Active Nottingham welcomed members and their friends to a VIP Open Day where Master Trainers from Life Fitness and Boditrax were available to show how to use the new equipment. The buzz around the centres was incredible as gym-goers took on new equipment.

Councillor Sue Johnson

Councillor Sue Johnson

Councillor Sue Johnson, a Nottingham City Councillor for 16 years after being elected in St Ann’s in 2007, has sadly passed away.

Sue, 65, was formerly the Chair of the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee as well as sitting on the Corporate Parenting Board. She was the Vice-Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee from 2017-2019 and sat on the Joint City and County Health Scrutiny Committee from 2007-2014.
