It appears Iowa’s junior senator Joni Ernst - a hardline Trump supporter - knows the truth about Trump’s actions. During a brief media appearance on Monday (her first after months of ducking the press to avoid impeachment-related questions), she expressed gleeful curiosity about whether Iowa caucus goers will still support Biden after the latest impeachment hearings.
The implications are clear: Ernst is promoting Trump administration lies that have been debunked, discredited, and refuted at every turn, lies designed to undermine former Vice President Biden’s candidacy for president.
Ernst could not contain her excitement. With one slip of the tongue, she confirmed that Trump fears going up against Biden and that Trump engaged in malicious, illegal attempts to undermine him, despite the president’s claims to the contrary.
This reaffirms the necessity to bring accountability and ethics to the U.S. Senate. Ernst’s blind support of this administration is unforgivable, and the people of Iowa should not give her a second chance. She will never be the senator we need or deserve. Even if Trump’s not re-elected, Ernst will still answer to the corporate PACs and corporate lobbyists that bankroll her rather than to the people of Iowa.
Ernst represents everything that’s wrong with the status quo: corporate influence and self-interest over public service.
