Hey John, I’m Tara
McGowan — Founder and Publisher of Courier Newsroom.

In a moment, I’m going to share how you can help us fight back against our
country’s growing information crisis.

But if you’re short on time, here’s the TLDR:

Right now, our local newsrooms in eight battleground states are fighting
the spread of misinformation with factual journalism and meaningful
stories in the communities and online spaces where misinformation spreads.

We make our news freely available to anyone who wants it but, in order to
keep it that way, we need your help before our upcoming end-of-quarter
fundraising deadline.

[ [link removed] ]John, I’ll be
direct. Our March fundraising has been a lot slower than we expected.
Right now, we’re facing a $15,500 gap that we need to close in the next 48
hours. So I’m personally asking: will you chip in $5 now to
fuel our local newsrooms and fight disinformation?

I founded Courier Newsroom because the way Americans get their news has
changed.

Local newsrooms keep closing, and millions of Americans now solely rely on
social media feeds and inboxes to learn about important local issues and
news.

It’s an alarming trend, and bad actors are filling the void with dangerous
misinformation. They are dividing our communities, and even stoking
political violence like we saw on January 6th.

At Courier Newsroom, we believe the best antidote to bad information is
good information. Our mission is to deliver factual, relevant local
journalism to the communities and online spaces where disinformation
spreads.

To accomplish that, we do things a little differently. For example, we do
NOT:

* Hide our stories behind paywalls — and we never will.
* Publish sensational stories — instead, we focus on the issues that
actually matter like what’s going on in your state and local
government.
* Let profit drive our reporting — because of our grassroots supporters,
we’re free to cover stories that actually matter to our readers.

And while major news groups like The Washington Post, Vox, and CNN are
announcing massive layoffs, we’re not.

Because of ongoing support from grassroots donors like you, we’re able to
retain our talented reporters and run a unique news model.

But our fundraising has slowed way down recently. To keep the lights on in
our existing newsrooms and expand into even more communities, we need to
close our $15,500 budget gap before March wraps. So I’m asking one more
time:

back against disinformation?
