John,
As we celebrate Women's History Month, I am proud to honor the trailblazing women who have paved the way for our progress and inspired us to fight for equality and justice. Women like Senator Margaret Rose Henry, whose pioneering spirit and dedication to public service have made a lasting impact on our state and our country.
[link removed] [[link removed]] Margaret Rose Henry is a true champion of equality and social justice. As the first African-American woman elected to the Delaware State Senate in 1994, she broke barriers and opened doors for women and people of color in politics. During her 24 years of service in the Senate, she fought for education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for all Delawareans, particularly those marginalized or underserved.
Throughout my career, whether it was in state government, at the Urban League, or deciding to run for Congress, Senator Henry always provided her wisdom and advice. That’s why I call her my political godmother.
Senator Henry’s legacy continues to inspire me and many others to strive for excellence, to never give up, and to always stand up for what is right. Her work has made our state a better place, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
As the first woman to represent Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives, I am keenly aware of the responsibility that comes with breaking barriers. I am honored to walk in the footsteps of Margaret Rose Henry and other trailblazing women who have made it possible for me to serve in this role. I am committed to continuing their work and fighting for equality, justice, and opportunity for all.
During this Women's History Month, let us celebrate the legacy of Margaret Rose Henry and all the women who have paved the way for us. Let us also recommit ourselves to the fight for gender equality and breaking down the barriers still holding women back.
Thank you for your continued support, and for joining me in honoring the contributions of women throughout history.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester
