Supporter -
My name is Louie Miller, and I'm the Director of the Mississippi Chapter of the Sierra Club. Here in Mississippi we again experienced the climate crisis firsthand last Friday when tornadoes touched down in the western part of our state.
This storm was extraordinarily powerful, with sustained winds of 166 miles per hour. This long-tracked tornado lasted for over three hours on the ground, with an estimated diameter of one to two miles in size, creating a path of destruction for one-hundred plus miles. We lost 21 members of our community. When you look at the images of the devastation in the town of Rolling Fork, it's clear this was an unprecedented event.
That's why I'm reaching out today to ask you to rush a donation to our community partners working to help in the immediate aftermath of the storm: Pyramid Project and the MS Chapter of the NAACP.
The Pyramid Project is a long standing community partner of ours in Rolling Fork, they will help provide shelter, food, and other essentials to families in need as the community tries to recover and rebuild.
The Mississippi NAACP is a leader in the state who is providing urgent aid and support to the victims of the devastating tornadoes that hit the Mississippi Delta. They are using donations to help provide emergency shelter, food, water, and other essential supplies to those who have lost everything.
This devastating storm touched down in communities who happen to be among the poorest in the country, which makes recovery even more challenging. But as is often true, where there's a lack of resources, community power steps in – and as a Sierra Club supporter you have a chance right now to make a difference by donating to our community partners providing direct aid.
Like most Sierra Club chapters, here in Mississippi we have worked for decades to protect communities from climate and pollution impacts.
Those fights will continue, but right now our neighbors and partners in Rolling Fork need immediate recovery assistance. Please, if you are able, make a donation today to Pyramid Project and MS NAACP.
For our families, for our future,
Louie Miller
