This week, the House of Representatives votes on two key bills to stop Trump from starting a war with Iran. This is yet another key step in our campaign to halt Trump’s reckless escalation against Iran, and we need you to make sure your Representative supports these bills.

These votes build on the successful House vote two weeks ago directing the President to remove troops from hostilities with Iran. Now, the House will vote to repeal the 2002 authorization for the use of military force against Saddam Hussein’s government and to block any funding for war with Iran.
President Trump is exceedingly image-conscious and these votes make a difference. We know the President watches how his moves on Iran play out in the media and on Capitol Hill and is wary of his Presidency going down the war path of George W. Bush.
Our ultimate goal is to get legislation to Trump’s desk that would ensure he can’t legally start a war with Iran and to send a message that the power to declare war rests within the people’s house, not in the hands of the executive. That effort will depend on the Senate passing one of these measures, which may take place after impeachment proceedings wrap up.
Today, the House passed a resolution condemning the Iranian government’s crackdown on November protesters, which we worked to ensure includes practical steps the U.S. can take to improve human rights by lifting sanctions on communications tools. The House is expected to take additional votes in the days and weeks ahead and we will continue our work and keep you updated.
