Friend, the news may have stopped showing devastating footage from earthquake-decimated regions in Syria and Türkiye, but UNFPA is still on the ground and responding to the needs of women and girls.
Of the more than 17.8 million people affected by earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, we estimate that over 260,000 women are currently pregnant across both countries — and the very survival of these women and their babies could depend on whether or not they have access to UNFPA’s lifesaving services.
Without proper health care systems in place, childbirth can quickly become a death sentence — and tragically, nearly the entire health infrastructure in the region has been damaged or destroyed from the earthquakes. Friend, this wide-scale destruction of sexual and reproductive health services has the potential to trigger a secondary disaster — but we’re working hard to prevent that.
From opening up emergency clinics to distributing dignity kits to operating mobile health clinics so we can reach even more people, we’re doing everything we can to save lives in the aftermath of this disaster — but there are so many more survivors counting on us. We urgently need additional funding so we can add more staff, equipment, and supplies to our emergency efforts, so I have to ask:
Your gift will deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to women and girls in more than 150 countries around the world. Thank you for being there for every woman and girl.
