Dear John,
The year 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 15th Amendment (1870), giving Black men the right to vote. During Black History Month, we honor the achievements of African American people and their central role in the history of the U.S.
Black History Month is an excellent time to explore the Black experience with young people in school and at home. This year's theme is "African Americans and the Vote." Use our

collection of resources to teach the history and culture of African American people, the injustices faced by them and how those injustices have been and continue to be confronted and overcome.
It is important not to isolate Black history and culture into one month during the year. Black history is American history and should be integrated into the learning experience of young people throughout the year.
