I really can’t think of a better way to spread the word about our newest program: the GND Futures Black and Latiné Organizing Leadership Program. The goal of this work is to train a generation of powerful young poor and working class Black and Latiné organizers to have the tools we need to win a Green New Deal future. And if we’re going to do that, we’re going to have to build powerful organizing units of our people, expand the vision of the GND as one that is resonant to our experiences, and be in strong community with each other.

The GND Futures Black and Latiné Organizing Leadership Program will support a cohort of 24 fellows based in Atlanta, GA and Miami, FL, from June through November of 2023, to develop core organizing skills.

Fellows in the program receive $1600/a month for the full program, meals provided during program hours, transportation, tech support, child care, and other wraparound services as needed. It’s important to us to have a program structure that alleviates a lot of the barriers identified above long enough for our fellows to achieve a solid foundation of organizing and campaign planning know-how and experience.

We know that it’s our Black, brown, poor, and working-class communities that are the first to suffer the most extreme effects of the climate crisis.

That’s why it’s critical to Sunrise that we can provide programs like this that are as barrier free as we can make them so we have a diverse and inclusive climate community that anyone can be a part of.

This is a fight for our lives and it’s critical that our movement transcends race and class lines. It’s going to take all of us to fight back against corporations and to force politicians to listen to us.
